Union Chandlery Topaz Nationals 2009 Event Report
Event Report

Union Chandlery Topaz Nationals, Malahide Yacht Club, 13 and 15th June. Race Report.
Two great days of racing with 21 entries representing six clubs MYC, HYC, LDYC, WHBTC, LSYC & DHSC. The weather was perfect with winds of force three strengthening to Force 4 at times. It was Michael Jones of WHBTC that was the outright winner with six first places and crowned Topaz National Champion 2009 a splendid result, which had even bettered last years champion Richard Arthurs who was unfortunately unable to defend his title due to exams, by one first place. Second place went to Graham Corbett of LDYC, third to Brendan Costello of MYC. The rest of the Places in the top ten were hotly contested with the odd breakage bringing disappointment to a few. Father and Son Conor & Brendan Costello finished with seven points separating them.
Congratulations also our youngest competitor Robert Wynne (DHYC) for his great showing and winning the under 12 category. Under 16 winner was Adam Doyle (MYC) , with the under 14 being taken by James Quealy (DHYC). Turnout was a little lower than usual, but this was mainly due to the number of sailors from all clubs that were busy concentrating on their Junior Cert or Leaving cert exams. Best of luck to them & I am sure they will be back on the water soon.
More photos will be uploaded once I receive them.
Peter Cunning.
