Topaz is now an ISA Recognised Class.

Recognised ISA Class

ISA Affiliated class

The Topaz class has now become a recognised ISA class, below is an article from the ISA detailing the benefits of being an affiliated class:

Affiliation to the ISA

The ISA is the National Governing Body for Sailing in Ireland, with a brief to promote the sport and protect the interests of all Irish Sailors. Affiliating to the ISA is the very best way of supporting sailing in Ireland and linking with other classes to develop a structured and coordinated approach to the promotion of Class Sailing.

Affiliation Benefits

    • Affiliated classes may use the ISA logo on their letter head, website and any publicity material.

      • The ISA's Racing Manager works closely with ISA affiliated classes to help and assist the growth and development of the class and promote networking between classes.
      • Classes that affiliate to the ISA may organise National and Regional Events published in the ISA annual calendar.
      • These events are published on the ISA Annual Calendar, publicised on the ISA Website and in the spring edition of Afloat Magazine.
      • ISA applies annually to the Irish Sports Council on behalf of classes for funding for preparation and coaching for international events.
      • Classes are entitled to a set of free ISA medallions (2 each of Bronze, Silver and Gold) for their National Championship. These Medallions normally cost €15 each.
      • Affiliated Classes are promoted on the ISA's Website with web links, email and contact details published.
      • Affiliated Classes are promoted in the ISA's Where to Sail in Ireland annual publication. Currently 10,000 copies printed and distributed annually.
      • The ISA negotiates space at the Dublin Boatshow on behalf of classes at nominal rates.
      • ISA can provide affiliated Classes with local tide tables, years in advance to help with planning for events.
      • The ISA co-ordinates an annual classes forum where all affiliated classes are invited to attend to meet representatives of other classes to discuss issues of mutual interest.
      • ISA Classes are entitled to use the ISA racing Marks free of charge (subject to availability).
      • Affiliated classes may apply to the Irish Sports Council (through the ISA) for funding for international class events.
      • ISA facilitate closer links between classes and clubs (when appropriate), to encourage a partnership in the promotion of the sport.
      • ISA provide help and support for the classes in areas relating to development, funding, promotion, safety and legal matters.

Affiliation Fees

Affiliation runs from March until March and currently costs €100 per annum.

Affiliation Procedure

Classes who wish to affiliate should apply on the form (available from the ISA office). The applications to affiliate are considered at the ISA Board of Directors monthly board meeting, following which classes will be informed of the decision.

Classes that affiliate after the end of August will not be invoiced for fees for the remainder of that year, but be given temporary Affiliation Status (subsequent to approval from the Board) until the following March when fees will be due.
